Located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
Save the Children in Indonesia is prepared to provide relief and help protect boys and girls during disasters and their aftermath. We provided relief and protection for tens of thousands of disaster-affected children and families across the country. We intervened in major disasters such as the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the 2006 earthquakes in Central Java and the 2009 earthquake in West Sumatra, as well as smaller-scale yet devastating events such as the 2010 tsunami in Mentawai and the recent Merapi eruption. In 2013, Save the Children responded to small scale disasters in areas where we work, including Bener Meriah in Aceh province and Malaka in East Nusa Tenggara province.
